Supporting recycling

Supporting recycling means buying and using recycled materials. Publishers have committed to ensure there is a market for recovered paper through the purchase of newsprint with recycled content subject to availability, quality and price.

While the de-inking and recycling plant was established at the Norske Skog newsprint mill at Albury in the mid-1990s, publishers took it upon themselves to help expand the market for recycling old newspapers and magazines with more than 100 investments recommended by state and federal governments. These helped establish many enterprises using old newsprint, many of which remain highly successful today, from the manufacture of egg cartons, fruit picking to cattle feed during droughts and even the manufacture of coffins.
